If you set the shared theme to the side for a moment, you should be able to see that in all other respects Game Dev Story has more in common with its Kairo stablemates than it has with Game Dev Tycoon. While for its own part, in actual gameplay Game Dev Tycoon has more in common with Velocigames’ Gamebiz 1 and 2 than it has with Game Dev Story.

Do exactly 1 training for all your employees in between each game. There is an invisible cooldown timer on trainings that make 2nd trainings less effective if you do them in rapid succession. By making a game in between each round of training, you let that training penalty ease a bit, getting you more points for the training.
Head Scratching is the game's way of showing your character has low stats. Of course when you start, your main character is not going to have the best stats, but better than most starting employees. Unsubscribed from the mod and launched the game, then loaded the broken save. Hit "load anyway" then saved and closed the game. Resubscribed and launched the game, hit "load anyway" then enabled the mod. Restarted the game and it's working again.
